Maui Wildfires: How to Support Our Maui Neighbors From O‘ahu

We’ve all seen the devastation on Maui this week resulting from out-of-control wildfires exacerbated by Hurricane Dora. And the question on all our minds has been: How can we help? Though we may be on O‘ahu, we can still support the people of Maui during their time of need.

American Red Cross of Hawai‘i, Hawaiian Airlines’ partner charity, is accepting donations of HawaiianMiles that will be used to transport volunteers and staff to Maui. Hawaiian Airlines has matched the first 30 million miles and is continuing to accept donations.

Plus, if you or your organization are working to assist those affected by the Maui fires and need air support, Hawaiian Airlines has created a Kōkua Maui request form so it can determine how to help.

Blood donations are distributed to all 18 civilian hospitals in Hawai‘i, including Maui Memorial Medical Center. Make an appointment at a drive or donation site to help replenish the state’s supply. O‘ahu donors with type O are urgently needed. Call (808) 848-4770 or go to bbh.org.

The Maui Humane Society has its hands full trying to care for all the homeless animals and help lost pets get back to their families. Lucky Paws Animal Foundation on O‘ahu is preparing to help by taking in cats from Maui, but first, they need to make more space in their facilities. If you or someone you know can help foster or adopt the cats currently housed at Lucky Paws, you can make a difference for them and the cats on Maui. Please help spread the word.
